Experience Dealing with My Own Cancer

Cancer is the most serious, deadly disease in the world. Since its symptoms are usually so severe, almost all cancer patients suffer from terrible pain. Both those who have suffered from this disease and those who have not have a great fear of cancer, So long as the diagnosis of cancer is included in-patients records, they remain convinced that they will die soon.

Almost all cancer patients experience severe mental stress as a result of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The most stressful and taxing of these is chemotherapy. While most patients do not wish to die from cancer, they also often feel they will die from their treatments.

My story starts in 1983 when I started having a lot of pain and discomfort before I was properly diagnosed. I did not think that I was seriously ill. I had been a doctor of oriental medicine for over 20 years at that time, and had treated over 100,000 patients in the United States. Confident of my own abilities, I did not pay too much attention to my symptoms.

This was a busy period of my life, and I was under a lot of stress, involving periods of chronic overwork, some personal problems and, most significantly, the death of my father. Due to my busy schedule, I was unable to return to Hong Kong for his funeral. The guilt surrounding this failure continued to haunt me for a long time. My time and energy were stretched by several different commitments.

Too much office work, combined with my attempts to handle a read estate business, teach my students and treat patients were bad enough, but I also abused my body through eating junk food and getting insufficient rest. Some factors in the physical environment of my office was also affecting me, causing several of my co-workers and me to become physically upset.

Obviously all these problems combined to severely affect my physical and mental condition. I refused to give it much thought, and continued to rely on the strength I always had in the past, to carry me through until I was diagnosed after surgery, in March of 1984 as having cancer.

I was hospitalized for emergency treatment due to my unwillingness to deal with my illness in another manner. Before I checked into the emergency room. I had received an exhaustive battery of tests in an effort to discover what was ailing me. All my organs and body parts, including my heart, lungs, kindness, liver, bladder and gall bladder checked out normal. No one properly diagnosed my illness until I had surgery.................

Since my body was not accepting the chemotherapy side effects were very severe. the original symptoms remained, I thought I should stop receiving the treatment, go home and relax, and commence my own method of treating and healing myself naturally.

Dr. J. C. did not say much regarding my decision; perhaps he thought I was going to die anyway. I decided that I would devise my own method of treatment for my health's improvement. I commenced this self-treatment in the late summer of 1984 around August. Still suffering from a fever and swollen abdominal areas. I submitted to another CAT scan swollen that tumors were still there. It was under these conditions that I began my self-healing.

I combined different kinds of exercise, completely altering both my diet and my lifestyle, and incorporating some Chinese herbal medicines and some acupuncture, acupressure, wugong, vitamins, special meditation, calligraphy-qigong, art therapy etc....... My wife, also an acupuncturist, was beside me to help me whenever necessary. A combination of all these treatments and therapies led to my full recovery from terminal cancer. After feeling healthier now than I have at any other time. In addition, I have won many prizes from International Traditional Medicine Contest, International Art Contest (read about Dr. Chan's News), as a cancer patient, I am better than a normal person...
